Tutorial 3: Quickly capture 3D illustrations for effective communication

Capturing illustrations, or memorized 3D views, and adding markups to them can be an easy and powerful way to communicate. A picture is worth a thousand words, a 3D model is worth a million, and the ease at which a user can leverage the 3D with QuadriSpace makes it an everyday toolset.

1. The OnTech document already has 4 pre-created illustrations. Let’s start by recalling a few of these. Click on the Illustrate Ribbon.
2. From the Illustrations Group, click on the Arrow below the Illustrations Button. This will bring up a list of thumbnails of pre-created illustrations.  Select one by clicking on it. The 3D view on the document page will change to reflect the selection.
3. Now to create a new illustration, we can click the top part of the Illustrations Button. This will create an illustration from the current view. A dialog box will display asking for an illustration name. Type in “Electronic Horn”. This name will be exported as a bookmark when we create a 3D PDF later. Press OK.
4. The orange box around the view indicates that you are editing an illustration. Any changes that are made to the view will be made to the current illustration. With that in mind, click on the Rotate Tool and then left click with the mouse to rotate the 3D model until the horn is roughly in the center of your view.
5. Now we want to add a red box around the horn. In the Illustration Tools Group, click on Shapes and then select a Rectangle. This will bring up a grid on the 3D view which will allow you to left click and drag a rectangle that boxes in the horn in the 3D view. A gray box will appear.
6. To set the colors, click on the Line Button in the Colors Group and select RED. You can also set the line weight to your liking here. Now, click on the Fill Button and select No Fill.
7. To finalize this illustration, click the Edit Illustration Button to turn editing OFF.
