Getting Started with your Own 3D Models

QuadriSpace Pages3D 2008 imports many common 3D formats include SolidWorks, Inventor, Pro/ENGINEER, SketchUp and Autodesk DWF to name a few. A complete list of supported file formats can be found here: Supported 3D model formats.

1. Start QuadriSpace Pages3D.
2. The Quick Start Dialog should display on startup, click on New Document. (If the Quick Start does not display, you can use the Application Menu to select New Document).

3. From the Home Ribbon, select Import 3D. This will display a file browser so that you can choose your 3D model for import. If you do not have a 3D model available, you can download one of our sample 3D models here: Sample 3D Models.

4. Once the model is imported, Pages3D will automatically create the first 3D view of this model and place it on the page. The document will initially have Edit Page turned on.
5. Since Edit Page is turned ON, you can use your mouse to move and resize the 3D view on your document page, much like you would orient an image or text box in a program like PowerPoint.

6. Now, Click on the Rotate Tool. This will automatically turn off Edit Page and the mouse can now be used to interactively rotate your 3D model. When Edit page is turn OFF, you can usually use the middle mouse button to pan and the right mouse button to zoom. Another trick is to hold down the CTRL key and left click a part to select or hold down the SHIFT key and left click a part to hide. There is also a right click menu that.

7. Explore the other tools in the Viewpoint Ribbon Group and consider their effects on the 3D view.
8. Now click Edit Page to turn it ON. Your mouse not will be used for page design again.
9. This should get you started and give you a better understanding how to navigate between editing a document page and manipulating the 3D model.
